Carl Progue is a native of Shreveport, La. He attended Grambling State University on a music scholarship. After moving to Houston, he continued his studies under the renowned Conrad Johnson, Houston’s big band leader and celebrated music educator.  He also had the opportunity to study with Wendell Brooks of the Berkley School of Music.

In 1985 Carl founded the group “Sea Breeze” and co-led the group with decorated Houston music educator Al Campbell. He mention that when he asked Al to join the group his only stipulation of joining the group was that he was co-leader. He said that it wasn’t a hard decision to make at the time and now realizes that Mr. Campbell was God sent.  The band emerged on the jazz scene at the Houston International Festival and played there for the next 7 consecutive years. Since that time Carl has performed throughout the United States, Montréal, Canada, Bolivia and Amsterdam. Presently, he performs at public and private events and also at restaurants, hotels, festivals and anywhere live music is desired.

Carl performs with an arsenal of instruments including the tenor, alto, soprano saxophone and flute.  He also loves playing his percussion toys to add a little seasoning to the mix. His performances range from a solo act to a five piece band with or without vocals.

When performing original compositions, smooth jazz or pop music, he always brings his unique interpretation to every occasion.
